Welcome to the Alameda Creek watershed. It’s a dynamic ecosystem that requires protection and management by a diverse team of professionals. Let me introduce you to a few.
Hi, I’m Zuri Greene. I’m a Watershed Keeper. You might be wondering, 'What does a Watershed Keeper keep?' and that’s a fair question.
My job involves patrolling this beautiful landscape, but it’s about more than that. We protect the watershed from fire and trespassers, that might harm the natural areas, water quality, or diverse wildlife habitats.
From monitoring reservoir levels to ensuring the safety of visitors, every aspect of my work contributes to preserving the integrity of the watershed, which is the foundation of clean water.
Now while I work to protect the watershed, it’s our Field Biologist who works to unravel its mysteries.
Hi, I'm Lucas, and I am a Field Biologist. My role is to study the diverse ecosystems within the watershed and analyze how species interact and thrive in this environment.
I conduct and direct field research, gather data on water quality, and track the health of plant and wildlife populations. My findings provide critical information that guides our conservation efforts and helps us understand the impacts of environmental change.
Studying this data helps us make informed decisions about preserving and enhancing biodiversity.
While my research is highly focused on the watershed’s biology, other people’s work has a broader reach. Let's meet someone who keeps the whole regional water system running.
Hi, I'm Amelia. As the Systems Operations Manager for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, my role is at the forefront of managing our intricate water system. I oversee the journey of water, from the natural sources in four major watersheds, to the taps in our homes, schools, and businesses.
My responsibilities include ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our reservoirs and pipelines, as well as implementing advanced technologies and sustainable practices to enhance the system.
Every decision my team and I make and every strategy we implement is done with an eye toward sustainability, efficiency, and the highest standards of water quality. Our collective efforts ensure the well-being of the watershed, as well as the health and safety of those who rely on our drinking water.
Thanks for visiting the watershed. Zuri, Lucas, and Amelia are just a few among the thousands, of people dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of water, and its efficient distribution to our communities.
