Parnassus Avenue Water Main Installation Project

OVERVIEW
There will be water main installation on Parnassus Avenue from Stanyan Street to 6th Avenue; on 6th Avenue from Judah Street to Loxley Street; on Lawton Street from 7th Avenue to Funston Avenue; and various side streets.

Project Background
This project will provide critical redundancy to the pipeline transmission system serving Stanford Heights Reservoir and improve water quality to pipelines at the end of the Stanford Heights Reservoir pressure zone. The original Stanford Heights mains were installed between 1898 and 1902.

- Aloha Avenue from Lawton to 15th Avenue
- Kirkham Street from 6th Avenue to 7th Avenue

Construction Look Ahead - Posted July 2, 2025
Week of June 30-July 3 -- SF Water Dept. measures for tie-in of 16" line on 11th Ave.; SFWD flushing and chlorination of new 8" water main on 11th Ave.; Install 12" water line along Parnassus Ave. from Willard St. to Hillway Ave.
Week of July 7-11 -- Install 8" water line at Stanyan St. & Parnassus Ave.
Week of July 14-18 -- Test new main and dig connection pits on Parnassus St.
What to expect during construction
- Work on your block will not be continuous. Expect crews to finish a portion of work and return at a later date (sometimes months later) to perform a different aspect of work.
- You will have access to your driveway and garage throughout the project, although there may be a slight delay if equipment or steel plates need to be moved to facilitate entry/exit.
- There will be no parking signs placed throughout the project. Please pay attention to the details posted on the signs. Generally, no parking applies during work hours. Some parking may be designated as "staging areas" for storing equipment and materials.
- At the end of each workday, the contractor will place temporary paving or steel plates for public access.
- When a major portion of the project is completed -- or the whole project is done -- the contractor will arrange for "final" paving, followed by striping of lanes and other traffic markings.
