Progress:
Phase 1
We undertook our initial analysis of next steps over the course of the summer of 2025, which culminated in Phase 1 of the restoration project, which was to prepare the site for rainy season by clearing debris and securing the slope. This was completed in October 2025.
Next, we procured a contractor with expertise in slope stabilization and began to design a plan that will allow us to eventually reopen the trail while also securing the water main in the park that supplies neighbors on Edgewood Road.
The contractor's site survey required analyzing soil and slope stability, and the installation of a bypass water pipeline to allow rebuilding of the slope. As the path in this area is quite narrow, the slope is steep, and the site is heavily vegetated, the construction plan also needs to take into account how best to bring in material and personnel in a way that is both safe and efficient.
Phase 2
Construction start under Phase 2 of the plan was delayed to May 2026 due to the need to develop a path forward addressing both site access and soil conditions. It will include creating a safe entry path for equipment and staff, securing the existing water main, installing a retaining wall, and restoring the trail.
While trail users and neighbors cannot visibly see this behind-the-scenes geotechnical and design work, it is crucial that we complete a comprehensive restoration before we re-open the site to the public. We appreciate that this is a lengthy process and that it requires keeping the trail closed until our work is complete. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE WORK AREA.
