Overview

Critical upgrades to our underground water and sewer infrastructure are planned in the Bayview. Crews will replace aging and undersized water mains to improve reliability in an area with a history of repeated main breaks, and upgrade sewer mains that have reached the end of their service life.

Water main upgrades are planned for:

Palou, Quesada, and Revere avenues between 3rd Street and Griffith Street
Lane, Keith, Jennings, Ingalls, and Hawes streets between Palou and Revere avenues

Sewer main upgrades are planned for:

Lane Street from Revere Avenue to Quesada Avenue
Keith Street and Jennings Street from Quesada Avenue to Palou Avenue
Quesada Avenue from Keith Street to Jennings Street, and Hawes Street to Griffith Street

Project Background

Underground water and sewer infrastructure that is approaching the end of its useful service life will be upgraded to help ensure the continued delivery of reliable utility services while reducing the risk of unexpected failures and disruptive emergency repairs. Replacing these aging pipelines will improve system performance, enhance long-term reliability, and minimize service interruptions for the surrounding community.
The project will also include the construction of curb ramps at various intersections to improve accessibility. All newly constructed curb ramps will meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
What to Expect During Construction

The process of replacing water mains involves multiple steps so construction will not occur continuously on each block. Crews will return to the same location several times, often with weeks or months between visits. Some activities, including testing and disinfection, take place after installation and are not visible to the public, so it may appear that no work is occurring even though progress is underway. To keep the project moving efficiently, crews often begin installing new water mains on the next block while previously installed mains undergo testing and disinfection. Working in smaller segments minimizes downtime, allows multiple phases of work to occur simultaneously, and helps reduce the overall project duration.
Local access for residents will be maintained at all times during work hours, though there may be some slight delay to enter or exit your property/driveway to allow for crews to create a safe path of travel.
Street parking will be temporarily restricted in the project area during construction hours. Please see posted signs for exact workdays, hours, and locations.
There will be noise, vibration, dust, and temporary traffic impacts in the work zone.
