National Blue Ribbon Commission for Onsite Water Systems
Since launching San Francisco’s Onsite Water Reuse Program, the SFPUC has been leading a national effort to advance onsite water reuse. Co-Chaired by the SFPUC and US EPA, the National Blue Ribbon Commission (NBRC) was formed in 2016 to advance best management practices to support the use of onsite water systems within individual buildings or at the local scale. Led by the SFPUC’s vision and leadership, the NBRC was established to craft model state policy and develop resources for the safe implementation of onsite systems. The commission is comprised of representatives from municipalities, water utilities and public health agencies from 16 states, the District of Columbia, the city of Toronto, the city of Vancouver, US EPA, and US Army Engineer Research and Development Center. The NBRC has made significant research contributions and continue to advance policies and regulations for onsite water reuse. Visit the NBRC’s webpage at www.watereuse.org/nbrc for more information.
