During the month of February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the many contributions and accomplishments of the Black community. This month provides an opportunity to acknowledge the impact of Black leaders, reflect on the challenges faced by the community, and celebrate the resilience and achievements that have shaped our collective history.

The Southeast Community Center (SECC) is excited to announce a series of events for Black History month hosted by various city departments, local organizations, and community members. All are welcome and invited to join us in celebrating Black History at the SECC.

The Sun-Reporter recently highlighted two San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) employees for their advocacy and community involvement. Emily Rogers-Pharr, Director of the Southeast Community Center, and Michelle Peters, Equity & Outreach Specialist, both employees of the SFPUC's External Affairs team, received the recognition in the Sun-Reporter's Talented 25 edition.

Sourcing much of our drinking water from high in the Sierras allows us to generate electric power from the movement of water as it comes down from the mountains. Electricity is produced when powerful jets of water are directed towards blades in a turbine that spin to power a generator.

On January 9, 2024, the SFPUC’s Natural Resources and Lands Management Division hosted its first volunteer planting day. Thirty volunteers worked through the rain to plant over 300 native plants at Laguna Honda Reservoir. Tucked beneath the forested slopes of Mount Sutro, Laguna Honda Reservoir sits on a small watershed owned and managed by the SFPUC.

For the SFPUC Power Enterprise, we continued to make progress on the City’s ambitious climate goals while ensuring cleaner energy remains affordable and accessible through our Hetch Hetchy Power and CleanPowerSF programs.
