The group that advises the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and the Board of Supervisors about plans, programming, and operations at the Southeast Community Center has a new name: the Southeast Community Center Council. 

The name change comes as part of a citywide effort to streamline commissions, task forces and other bodies as part of Proposition E, which voters approved in November 2024. The proposition created the Commission Streamlining Task Force to make recommendations to Mayor Daniel Lurie and the Board of Supervisors about ways to modify, eliminate, or combine boards and commissions to improve the administration of city government.

Recently, the Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance that will implement some of the Commission Streamlining Task Force’s recommendations.

As part of those changes:

• The Southeast Community Facility Commission is now named the Southeast Community Center Council to be consistent with other city advisory bodies. 
• Commissioners will now be referred to as council members. 
• Council member term lengths are now three years instead of four.
• A four-term limit takes effect on January 1, 2027, with transition rules for current members.

The newly named Southeast Community Center Council will continue to promote and advocate for services and the improvement of the general economic, health, safety, and welfare of residents in San Francisco’s southeast neighborhoods.
