Recycled Water for Soil Compaction and Dust Control Activities
Purpose:
To conserve potable water by using recycled water for soil compaction and dust control.
Who Must Comply:
Contractors performing work in San Francisco.
Effective under Ordinance 175-91, contractors are required to comply with Article 21 of the San Francisco Public Works Code, which restricts the use of potable water for soil compaction and dust control activities to the extent not directly in conflict with any applicable federal, state, or local law. As an alternative to potable water, recycled water can be used for these activities.
At this time, recycled water is not available from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Wastewater Enterprise. During this time when recycled water is unavailable, contractors who want to use potable water for soil compaction or dust control activities should contact the SFPUC Customer Service Bureau (CSB) to complete a potable hydrant meter application. The full process to apply for a hydrant meter and link for the application can be accessed on the Hydrant Meters website.
