SFPUC Infrastructure Celebrates Contractors and Building Better Together

Skilled contractors make it possible for the SFPUC to build, maintain, and improve our infrastructure. The Infrastructure team was proud to highlight this partnership at its 18th annual Contractors Breakfast, which showcased upcoming opportunities for collaboration and recognized small businesses that have worked on SFPUC’s projects.

Organized by the Workforce and Economic Program Services (WEPS) team, the breakfast event was held during Infrastructure Week at the War Memorial. It provided a unique forum for SFPUC staff to hear from industry partners, while giving contractors an opportunity to speak to the people responsible for planning and delivering the agency’s capital program. Contractors, including Local Business Enterprises (LBEs), were encouraged to network with each other and SFPUC staff as part of their business development.

“Our past achievements – and our future progress – are made possible through the collective expertise and dedication of contractors across this remarkable city. From major infrastructure improvements in water and wastewater, to clean renewable power, the SFPUC is committed to partnering with the people and businesses helping us build a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable future for the City,” said Stephen Robinson, Assistant General Manager of Infrastructure.

Thanks to the WEPS team’s extensive event planning and the breakfast's popularity, more than 200 people attended – the largest event in years. Throughout the morning, SFPUC staff shared the projects planned for the next 18 months and beyond. Sony Dhaliwal, Katie Miller, and Bessie Tam, who are in the Infrastructure Division and respectively lead capital programs for the Power, Water, and Wastewater Enterprises, each spoke about the upcoming projects needed to support and update our water, power and sewer infrastructure.

A standout moment of the event was recognizing Streamline Drywall and HVYW8 (Heavyweight) Trucking, who shared their experiences with the SFPUC and the growth of their businesses. Both of these contractors are LBEs and have successfully competed for SFPUC contracts. In a recent LinkedIn post, Streamline expressed their gratitude for the SFPUC’s continued investment in local business and workforce development.

“The SFPUC has long been a champion for local businesses and the communities they serve, including providing support through the Contractors Assistance Center and Getting Down to Business Program. Empowering local workforce, delivering excellence, and doing right by this city is how Streamline operates on every project, every day. Gratitude to the SFPUC for continuing to invest in relationships that go beyond contracts – and to every person in that room building San Francisco’s future alongside us,” said Triston Dion, Principal at Streamline Drywall.
