San Francisco Zoo Recycled Water Project

Overview

On the west side of San Francisco, we are aiming to save up to 2 million gallons per day (mgd) on average of drinking water that is currently used for non-drinking purposes such as irrigation and lake fill. Recycled water will be delivered for these uses through a system of pipelines, pump stations, storage tanks and reservoirs. This project will bring advanced treated recycled water from the Westside Recycled Water Treatment Facility to the San Francisco Zoo for landscape irrigation, animal exhibit washdown, and animal pool filling, and to the Lower Great Highway for landscape irrigation.
