This summer, high school students from across the Bay Area laced up their boots, took seats in boardrooms, and rose to the challenge in debate rooms – all as part of Project Pull, a paid, eight-week internship that pairs local youth with San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) employees for hands-on learning and mentorship. Here's a sampling of the interns' experiences:
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) announced the completion of the first major project in a multi-billion-dollar upgrade to San Francisco’s oldest and largest wastewater treatment plant.
Odor control has always been a top priority during the planning and design phases of new facilities at the Southeast Treatment Plant. With the start of operations of the new Headworks Facility last summer, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) introduced cutting-edge technology that significantly reduces odors resulting from the wastewater influent, or sewage flow entering the plant, for both staff and the surrounding community.
Bathroom wipes, cleaning rags, and all the other mystery items people shouldn’t flush are now getting caught faster at the Southeast Treatment Plant. It’s all thanks to the new Headworks Facility, which is making the plant more efficient, reliable, and resilient—and keeping everything flowing in the right direction.
