Variance Requests

Variance Requests for Hetch Hetchy Power

Streetlight with Golden Gate Street signA Variance Request allows customers to propose an alternative solution when project conditions make it difficult to follow all aspects of the SFPUC’s Rules and Regulations Governing Electric Service. Every project is different, and we understand that specialized circumstances may require a tailored approach.

A variance may be considered if:

  • The request continues to meet the intent of the Rules and Regulations.
  • The impact on safety, reliability, maintenance, cost, and liability is none or negligible.
  • The request does not harm public welfare or affect surrounding properties.
  • The variance is required to prevent development challenges or inconsistencies with SFPUC objectives.

Note that variances are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and approval of one request does not establish precedent. Variance Requests must be submitted before construction begins.
