Progress:
We undertook our initial analysis of next steps over the course of the summer, which culminated in Phase 1 of the restoration project, which was to prepare the site for rainy season by clearing debris and securing the slope. This was completed in October.
Next, we procured a contractor with expertise in slope stabilization and began to design a plan that will allow us to eventually reopen the trail while also securing the water main in the park that supplies neighbors on Edgewood Road.
The contractor's site survey will include geotechnical borings, and the installation of a bypass water pipeline to allow rebuilding of the slope. As the path in this area is quite narrow, the slope is steep, and the site is heavily vegetated, the construction plan also needs to take into account how best to bring in material and personnel in a way that is both safe and efficient.
Construction under Phase 2 of the plan is scheduled to begin in late winter or early spring, dependent on weather and soil conditions.
While trail users and neighbors cannot visibly see this behind-the-scenes geotechnical and design work, it is crucial that we complete a comprehensive plan before we begin any long-term fix. We appreciate that this is a lengthy process and that it requires keeping the trail closed until our work is complete. Please be assured that we are focusing resources on this restoration project in order to achieve results that are both timely and permanent.
