SF Supervisors Approve Climate Leader Meghan Thurlow for SFPUC Commission
SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved Mayor Daniel Lurie's appointment of Meghan Thurlow to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, which oversees the City's essential water, power, and wastewater services.

Commissioner Thurlow is a lecturer at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business, where she teaches business and public policy. She also leads the technical advisory arm of Carbon Reduction Consulting in San Francisco, helping companies reduce pollution and manage environmental risk. Previously, Commissioner Thurlow spent over a decade in senior leadership roles at Aclima, a San Francisco-based air quality and climate technology company.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Commissioner Thurlow to the SFPUC,” SFPUC General Manager Dennis Herrera said. “The Commission’s leadership is crucial as we continue to ensure a stable water supply for 2.7 million Bay Area residents; expand San Francisco's clean, affordable public power system; and make generational investments in our sewer system to further protect public health and the environment. I look forward to working with Commissioner Thurlow and her colleagues to help shape the future of these vital services and programs for all of our customers."
Commissioner Thurlow will fill the at-large seat, bringing the five-member body to full membership. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in physical chemistry from Harvard, an M.B.A. with honors from UC Berkeley, and a B.A. in chemistry with distinction from Carleton College in Minnesota.
